First off, it's expensive so for people complaining about the price, I understand. However, you shouldn't down-rate an item because it's too expensive. Stop being cheap. This is hands down the best protein money can buy. It's better than an already great product in Optimum's Gold Standard Whey, but it's just a better protein in that it's hydrolyzed for faster delivery - it's a purer protein. The chocolate is absolutely delicious and so is the vanilla. I've tried dozens and dozens of proteins and really have to say that this is just it. It's the best. Period. (Posted on 1/24/12)

I'm very lactose intolerant and as the product states, there is 0 lactose in it. Normally when companies day "0 grams" they really mean there is XXX milligrams of lactose in it (aka, i still get sick). I do not believe this is the case here.

This product gave me a ton of energy and was easy to digest for being lactose intolerant. I put it in soy milk and it tasted great.

ok so is it pricey? yes of course.. does it mix very well in a regular shaker? yes. does the chocolate actually taste like chocolate? yes it does, not chalky, or stale tasting. but actually does taste like a delicious chocolate shake, either with water, or milk.. definately worth the buy

I think this is a great product:

-low sugar yet great taste that I look forward to drinking
-from the testing consumer reports has done, it has one of the lowest amounts of heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, etc.), the same which cannot be said for brands like muscle milk.. Which justifies the price for me.
-very high protein per scoop (30g!)

Honestly, the only downside really is the price is a bit much, but for the purity of the product, it's worth it, people take supplements like this to improve their health- why would you buy a lesser product with relatively high concentrations of toxic metals that could potentially have negative side effects? To start off with, this is an excellent product, though most folks probably don't need it. This whey protein is made up almost entirely of hydrolysated protein - which basically means it has been pre-digested into peptides and small chain proteins. A few years back, pure amino acid mixes were all the rage amongst strength training athletes. Then scientists figured out that single amino acids were not absorbed very efficiently by the body. Basically the receptors in the intestines can only accept one unit of protein at a time. This one "unit" can be a singular amino acid, or it can be a di or tri-peptide bonded amino acid. Effectively, by consuming these peptides you can absorb protein 2-3 times faster than you could by consuming straight amino acids. You also absorb this product much faster than a whole protein since the body has to break down whole protein with enzymes in the stomach. This process can take hours with whole food proteins (meat). Whole whey protein is broken down much quicker and whey hydrolysate (this product) is almost instantaneous.

Platinum Hydro whey contains a very high percentage of these small, low molecular weight peptides which are absorbed with a very high degree of efficiency into the body. What sugar is to carbohydrates, this product is to protein. It basically gets protein into your blood stream as quickly and efficiently as possible.

This effect is good for two types of people:
- Intensely training athletes (especially strength training athletes) immediately following a hard workout session.
- People who have trouble digesting protein for various reasons, which can include illness or old age.

So yes, this is a highly purified, easily digested, extremely high quality protein. However unless you have an immediate need for rapid protein delivery, or have some sort of digestive issue, there are more affordable options for protein. All of these folks here complaining about the price of this product are doing so because they likely don't understand it's usage and they would probably be served just as well with a standard whey protein powder. A high grade hydrolysate protein is and always has been an expensive, specialized supplement.

I have used this product before myself. I went through a 2-lb jug of the strawberry late last year. The taste is just "ok" and the texture and consistency is very thin. Consider this a functional product, not a tasty treat. I found that this product cleared my system VERY quickly and left me hungry again very shortly after my workout - which is to be expected. Easily the best tasting protein powder you can buy. The chocolate may technically taste the best, but the strawberry flavor is also fantastic and is the better choice for blending smoothies (ie mix w/ frozen fruit and blend for a easy and healthy breakfast).

Also, this was one of the safest protein powders Consumer Reports tested back in July 2010 (the one that discussed contaminants in protein powders; definitely work checking out if you're a frequent user of these powders). (Posted on 1/24/12)

I researched and bought a number of different health-shake related products. The short version of this review is that I tried ON's Platinum Hydro Whey first, as a supplement to the P90X formula; eventually ran out of it; tried the other things I bought; and am now giving them away to go back to this!

A buddy of mine gave this to me for free. He didn't like the taste. I thought the chocolate flavor was fantastic but that is probably because I have always used vanilla and plain flavor whey products.

I have used many different whey products in the past and just about all of them have given me a little bit of gas. This stuff does not upset stomach nor does it give me gassy like other whey protein products. If you have problems with digesting products than this product could be for you. If you do not have digestion problems with other whey procuts than I would save your money and stick with the others. I highly doubt you will gain more muscle just because you are using hydro whey. I used ON Gold Whey for a while and was very happy with it. The new Platinum blows the Gold away.


The added protein and BCAA's are nice. No sugar, 1g Carbs, 1g fat. The only thing is there's some sodium (10% of daily), up from 8% on the Gold. Got the Turbo Chocolate, and mix it with a little milk, egg whites, a little light chocolate syrup and water/ice and it tastes great. I am big on researching products before buying them, and this certainly came under my radar when I wanted to start a 3 month workout regimen. I have used ON Gold Standard before with good results, but I couldn't pass this Hydro Whey up after reading about it.

I just finished the bottle after 30 days of an intense weightlifting routine, and I have no complaints. I am not a big stickler for taste because I don't think it matters in a supplement, but this stuff is really good anyway, so that's a plus. I'm not going to act like this protein gave me huge gains and is a miracle, but I definitely have noticeable results and there is no need to expand to anything else, this stuff does what I need it to and I WILL buy it again and again. I've bounced around seems like forever reading reviews and giving the top reviewed and seemingly strong profile whey proteins a try but always coming up empty. Truth be told was not much a fan of ON Whey GOLD however ON Hydro Whey Platinum chocolate has meet all my needs.

Taste = 10, Mixability = 10, Profile = 10, REsults = 10. Price = when you've bounced around long enough and find what works for you price is not an issue! Anyway, no aftertaste, no stomach problems! I am extremely lactose intolerant and have been looking for a protein shake that does not make me sick for a long time. After purchasing this shake, I can gladly say I've found it! .

Taste: 2/5 (This is obviously subjective, others who love milkshakes will love it)
Mixing: 5/5 (Stirring or blending works fine)
Digestion: 5/5 (Quickly digested, perfect for people with lactose intolerance)
Results: 5/5 (You'll notice results after a few days)

Overall, this product is very effective at supplying quality protein and BCAA'a while limiting undesirable ingredients.

Mixability: fine in a shaker with milk or water.

Taste(Chocolate): Mediocre and very similar to their 100% Gold standard.

I really like this stuff. It's a super-efficient protein, giving you 30 grams at just 140 calories. Plus, really minimal carbs (1 gram, I think)It mixes perfectly in a shaker cup; and pretty not-so-bad if you just spoon it into a cup. Not as chunky as most of the other ones get. When it comes to whey protein, you definitely get what you pay for. Cheaper whey, such as ON's Gold line, contains mostly whey concentrates which are less readily absorbed. As soon as Platinum Hydrowhey came out I grabbed a tub and gave it a try. I was never impressed with ON's flavors. They have the largest variety, but they always had a chemical aroma which spoiled the taste. Their chocolates, however, were always pretty good.

ON has a pretty good reputation and so I trust the quality of their protein. This is my new whey supplement from now on. (Posted on 1/24/12)

It's the best product you can get if you want a fast absorbing/great tasting protein drink. Mixing this with water produces the best taste for the combo that I've tried thus far. To all the people complaining about the price, if you have a disposable income and want fast results, this is for you, to all the others that complain about the price, go for gold standard, it's cheaper but absorbs slower and is lesser in quality.
