It’s about time, right? After a long hot summer, the cooler weather has finally arrived. It’s funny how we have to wait for summer to end before we can hit the beach out here, but fear not, we have arrived, so you can now set your weekend clock to beach mode, and here are a few fun ways to stay active beach side:
This is probably one of the best ways to stay active on the beach and you’ll often find that you get great results from fitness that doesn’t feel too much like hard work, because you’re too busy having fun! Get a group of friends together, grab a ball and you’re all set for action. And here’s a pair of sunglasses to complete your sporty beach look.
Stand up paddle boarding – that’s what’s SUP. This is a surprisingly great workout; you get a great dose of cardio work with all the paddling, and then there’s the abdominal strength to stabilise and balance yourself on the board. And if you fall in, well that’s all good too!

Beach walking/ jogging
If you’re a road runner (or walker) then you’ll see a huge difference on the sand – adding weight and resistance, not to mention an unsteady terrain to your run. This helps to build endurance as you practice breath control and increased cardio capacity. You can always make it a little easier by running on the shoreline where the sand is nice and compact. If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, a casual beach stroll is another great way to stay active on a lazy beach day (which is definitely needed when the weekend comes around) – get your steps in, breathe in the fresh air and just enjoy being by the sea.
